About the Invention and the Inventor:
After many years of extensive research , our partner, Dr. Hiran Abeysinghe PhD invented a technology perfecting a method to treat and to preserve natural flowers and foliage against discolouration. He then pioneered an Industry introducing an exiting new rage of products to the world, incorporating real flowers and foliage within layers of glass polymer. At present, the range of products include - Lamps , Decorative Wall Plaques, Indoor and Outdoor Furniture, Garden Accessories, Stained Glass Effect Panels, Tableware, various shapes & sizes of  Decorative Items,  Sign Boards etc. Dr. Abeysinghe holds a PhD in Polymer Technology from the University of London, U.K.

About the Technology and the Manufacturing Process:
We have perfected the art and science of preserving exotic flowers and foliage, most of which are carefully handpicked from tropical rainforests, treated, preserved and sealed within layers of polymer, in exquisite original arrangements, to last for a life time.

The process of preservation not only requires a long period of time, it also involves a fair amount of manual but highly skilled labour. Depending on the size of the plaque/shade,  the complexity of the design and the types of flowers/foliage used, it may require anywhere from 10 hours to several days to complete the work on each piece. Certain larger pieces require a few of weeks labour to complete.

Even though the technology was invented in U.K. and perfected in U.S.A., due to its demand for a labour intensive manufacturing environment, the entire production process is now carried out in Asia. While almost all the flowers and foliage are collected from tropical rainforests and botanical gardens in Asia, requests for special pieces by some customers are met by incorporating certain North American foliage (such as Maple Leaves) collected from Canadian forests during the fall season.   With regard to our unique range of Lamps, although the bases and shades (incorporating flowers & foliage) are made in Asia, all the electrical components are sourced from USA/Canada and final assembly is done in Canada.
  
Apart from creating Art Designs based on the flowers collected, the entire manufacturing process involves several stages of treatments. While most small sized flowers and foliage are treated in their entirety, depending on the imagination of the designer/artist, certain large pieces may go through a process of trimming and/or  separation of petals. Selected  flowers, separated petals, ferns and grasses then go through a process of Anti-fungal treatment. In order to preserve the freshness and vibrancy of flowers,   the treatment process must be started within several hours after picking the flowers. Dried, withered, faded or shrunk flowers are generally not selected for preservation. During the next several stages of process, a special Chemical (composition is patented by the company) manufactured exclusively for the company by BASF Laboratories of Germany, is applied evenly on each flower, petal, fern/leaf at varying intensities. Depending on the thickness and formation of their petals/leaves,  different flowers/foliage require different levels of treatments.  Once all levels of treatments are completed, the procedure continues to the next most intricate and important  stage of placing each piece of flower, petal, fern & grass on a pre-designed or imagined pattern of an artist, to create a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of art.  Once this painstaking work on the creation of artwork is completed, a thin layer of a special transparent chemical is applied on the surface of the plate and depending on the types of flowers used, the piece is then exposed to Sunlight or to varying intensities of Infra Red light to invoke a chemical reaction of self lamination. Framing is done after vacuum sealing at the final stage.

Each piece is handcrafted and created exclusively for the discerning tastes in a rich blend of flowers and foliage.  Many of our  creations come in an array of unusual frames, sizes and colours which could be interchanged among various designs and patterns.
